FORMED With Future Heritage – Design Discoveries

Marc Fish | Ethereal Low Table

My thanks to Claire German for inviting me to a preview evening exhibition of ‘Formed with Future Heritage’ at the Design Centre Chelea Harbour, showcasing established and emerging makers. These are my highlights of the evening…

I was particularly taken by pieces from the Marc Fish, ‘Ethereal’ furniture collection. The techniques shown in the Ethereal collection are totally new to me. It’s only with a very close look and a helpful explanation from Mark that all became clear. The coffee table, chair and wall art are created from 6mm sycamore veneer twisted into sinuous ribbons with an acrylic resin cast in between and then given a frosted texture. The material gives the beautiful illusion of an undulating surface, until touched and you feel that the surface is in fact flat or very nearly so in the case of the wall art.

These are undoubtedly modern pieces that would suit a contemporary home but I can also see them within a more traditional setting, in juxtaposition to classical pieces. Their depth of detail would balance well with more ornate decor.

New Volumes exhibited a range of terracotta furniture and accessories that would be perfect for a townhouse garden courtyard or equally a country estate lawn. I love the robust classical shapes and strong colour in combination with its soft clay texture. The chair and low table will work beautifully in one of my current London projects.

There were other beautiful collections and pieces on display at the exhibition that I look forward to writing about shortly. It’s been a great week for discovering new companies, makers and artists for our Interior Design projects.
